T.A.R.P - Not Too Sound!

The $700 billion, actually about $850 billion, “Bailout” bill is being reworked.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is holding hearings to take a look at the package. Paulson, as we all remember, was given what amounts to a blank check and unrestricted use of taxpayer’s money to do with as he wishes. He conveyed a convincing story to reel in members of the House and Senate to go along with his plan. To date there has already been billions handed out around the financial industry. These handouts have been instituted without strings. This has lead to a gross misuse of these funds without any accountability. AIG is the perfect example of this misuse as they continue to fund “Executive Retreats” at taxpayer’s expense.

Now, Paulson has changed his tone and is looking to change the auspices of his plan. In his press conference held Nov. 12, Paulson babbled on about nothing. He spent more time spinning the truth then focusing on the ineffectiveness of the current plan. After reading his words, I’m thinking his remarks were written by Dr. Seuss.

What will he come up with next? Only the Shadow knows.

We, as American taxpayers have been duped. We were told that the plan would be a good thing for our economy but, as it urns out there real was no plan. Our tax dollars have been flying out of the Treasury door at an alarming rate. These funds have been used by the recipients as they have seen fit and little stabilization has been realized, if any. The markets still fall every day and have finished each week of trading on a down note. Financial institutions are not using the funds to make more money available in the credit market; instead, they use the funds to cover capital losses and executive bonuses.

The move towards this bailout legislation was opposed by the majority of Americans, but they moved forward with it. We can now say “I told you so.”

Now the auto industry will receive $25 billion with another $25 billion waiting in the wings. I have already voiced my opinion on that subject, “Big Three Bailout”.

Our government believes that there is an unrestricted surplus of our tax dollars available for them to use as they wish. Our Founding Fathers never intended for collected taxes to be used in this way. The taxes collected by the government from citizens were intended to be used for the good of all citizens not a select few. We live in a free market, capitalistic society, and one where businesses succeed of fail based on their business practices. If greed drives the business, it is destined for failure and this has been realized in our financial industry. Where is it that our government can find the right to interfere in that market?

In 1979 Chrysler Corp’s then CEO Lee Iacocca made a trip to Washington to look for a bailout for his struggling company. He was successful in securing $1.2 billion in federal loan guarantees and Chrysler had recovered but the end of 1983. But, what was the actual cost and did this bailout actually prove to be the element of success for Chrysler. In an article by James K. Hickle from July 13, 1983 and published by The Heritage Foundation, Mr. Hickle addresses the real reason for Chrysler’s recovery. To summarize, Chrysler Corp operated as if they had filed Chapter 11 without actually doing so. They contacted their suppliers and renegotiated their debts and contracts. Chrysler’s work force also suffered. 20,000 white collar jobs were cut and 46,000 hourly employees lost their jobs.

“Many observers, including Senator William Proxmire (D-Wisc.) complain that the number of employees laid off at Chrysler in this period is at least as large—and may even have been larger—than the number of jobs that probably would have been lost had Chrysler actually been forced into bankruptcy.”

”The truth is that the Chrysler Corporation has gone bankrupt by every normal definition of the word. In the past three years, Chrysler has renegotiated its debts and restructured its organization in a way that greatly resembles a company going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Its creditors, like those of bankrupt firms, were forced to swallow sizeable losses.

This was the result of a clause in the Chrysler Corporation Loan Guarantee Act of 1979 that required creditors to make certain "concessions" to Chrysler. With this clause to exploit and with Treasury Department officials, including then-Secretary William Miller, pressuring its creditors, Chrysler was able to pay off more than $600 million in debts at just 30 cents on the dollar.

So who will be next? Will Wal-Mart and Target, Lowes and Home Depot or a couple of the big warehouse clubs come seeking “Bailout”? Where will this end and what will the cost be for the government’s meddling in the business world? If I bet the farm on investments or a business venture and it went south, would I have the availability of some one else’s money? Just because you are “Big Business” and have friends in high places, does this give you the right to fringe benefits at taxpayer’s expense?

So what does this all mean? It looks like we are heading down this same road, only at a much larger scale. The rules are changing from day to day, thus making this bailout more volatile than the market or economy itself.

If we do not study and learn from history, we are destined to repeat our mistakes. Our government is heading do that exact slippery slope.

AIG's Post Bailout Parties

TakingBackAmerica.org recently contacted AIG’s Board of Directors. An email was addressed to the BOD after the reported “Parties” the company held at taxpayers expense after receiving almost $118 billion in “Bailout” money from the feds.

TakingBackAmerica.org demanded that the Board explain the company’s actions and demanded that the responsible parties be held accountable for the misappropriation of funds. The email pointed out the company’s policies on Corporate Responsibility and asked them how they were showing this with their actions.

As an American taxpayer and now shareholder and speaking for all American taxpayers, TakinBackAmerica.org called them to task.

TakingBackAmerica.org received the following email reply at 8:12 PM, October 29, 2008.

In response to your email addressed to the Board of Directors, one of the events mention in your email was a business event held by an AIG subsidiary and was mischaracterized as an “Executive Retreat”.  The story which was reported widely in the press is not accurate. This event in question was held by AIG’s U.S. life insurance subsidiary for independent life insurance agents—not for AIG employees—who were the top sales producers for the company. The vast majority of the 100 attendees were independent business people and their guests, not AIG employees.

Another event, "the hunt", was held for customers of the AIG property casualty insurance companies in the U.K. and Europe should have been canceled, and we're sorry that it was not.  The expenses associated with this event will be reimbursed and disciplinary action is being taken against AIG employees who exhibited poor judgment in allowing this event to proceed.

AIG wishes that these events had not happened and regrets that they were not cancelled.

We understand that our company is now facing very different challenges, and that we owe our employees and the American public new standards and approaches.  All further events not essential to the conduct of our business have been canceled, in line with AIG's stricter new corporate expense policy to stop all non-essential conferences, meetings and activities that do not clearly maximize value and customer service given the current conditions.  Furthermore, AIG agreed to establish a Special Governance Committee to institute new expense management controls. These new controls and protections will be designed at the Board level to prevent any future unwarranted expenditures.  We continue to reevaluate the costs of all aspects of our operation in light of the new circumstances in which we are operating.

AIG is focused on rebuilding its businesses, committed to protecting the interests of the U.S. taxpayers and our shareholders, and in repaying the Fed credit facility as expeditiously as possible.

Responses from the Obama Nation.

Yesterday I created a blog account on Senator Obama's web site. This gave me the opportunity to begin recruiting Obama supporters to McCain. My blog post there was respectful, factual and to the point. But, as Obama's campaign has shown time and time again, if ya can't beat 'um, beat 'um up. Not one response to my blog addressed any of the points I had made. Instead, those who commented attacked me repeatedly and attacked Senator McCain by creating variations of his name.

Obama supporters truly don't want to see the truth.

Here are a few of the responses I received, which and also be seen on my Obama site blog.

As of the time of this note, 10:50 am est, my Obama blog has disappeared. I have attempted to access the actual blog and I receive the following message, "You are not authorized to create a blog". Funny, I was when I first created my account.

This is just more proof positive that Obama will use any and every tactic available to silence the opposition. Just another step towards repealing the 1st amendment under an Obama government.

I will be contacting a moderator as to why my blog post was removed.

AIG Does It Agian!

Unbelievable!

AIG spends close to another million of taxpayer's money for another fun trip. Where's the oversight now? How can this company continue to spend and spend OUR hard earn money away? That's about 2 million now in "PERKS" at our expense!

They have been handed $150 billion in "Bailout money. Yes, I said bailout.

I sent the following email to AIG's Board of Directors at the following email address:  boardofdirectors@aig.com

I can not begin to express my total disgust for the action of AIG.

There is obviously NO corporate responsibility on the part of AIG as expressed on your web site. We now learn of a third executive fun trip that again has cost us, the American taxpayers, even more money! With this latest vacation, you now owe the American taxpayer 2 million dollars.

This whole bailout has been a joke and not endorsed by the American people. Again, Washington politics has been bought by companies such as yours. You have been given $150 billion in bailout money and you still squander it away. Just what is wrong with you people?

If we, the taxpayers own 85% of AIG, I as a part owner demand that the wasteful spend stops NOW!

NO MORE WASTEFUL SPENDING!
NO MORE FUN TRIPS FOR EXECUTIVES!
NO MORE EXPENSE ACCOUNTS!
NO MORE COFFEE AND DOUGHNUTS AROUND THE OFFICE!
NO MORE B.S!
NO MORE OVER VALUED SALARIES!

If you can't curb your own dogs, we WILL do it for you. We have had enough of this outlandish greed and corporate corruption. I guarantee  you this. I will be on the phone with all of my Washington officials as well as those related to the "Bailout" junk bill.

John Stone
TakingBackAmerica.org

We must remember that we, as tax payers, own 85% of AIG. We need to hold them accountable for financial responsibility.

Email the board as I have and let them now that you will not stand for this blatant disregard for the American taxpayer.

Call your representatives and demand action from them to stop AIG now.

Are We Missing Something Here?

Are we missing something here? Have we forgotten about one very important issue that seems to have been left behind? Can relate a portion of our economic crunch to this issue?

What happened to the illegal immigration issue? I know that it just didn't get up and walk away back south of the boarder. Neither candidate has said word one on this growing and out of hand issue. How does this affect our nation's economy?

Well here's just one example.

On October 2, 2008, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger penned an official letter to Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson. In this letter Schwarzenegger writes:

GovLeter

On October 3, this story shows up in the Los Angeles Times:

GovLeter

I think it is safe to say that California's lax approach in handling illegal immigrants plays a large roll in that state's financial shortfalls/ California hosts the largest population of illegals in the nation.

Hey, Mr. Arnold, why don't you attempt to lead the nation in cracking down on illegals and we wouldn't feel so bad about helping you out. Your state's ultra liberal ways are catching up to you. Keep handing out healthcare and other social services to those who are here illegally. Continue to give these people handouts. The true US citizens of your state will suffer as a consequence of your sanctuary cities.

The time has come to clean house. Then, and only them, will this great nation be able to get back on track to true financial stability.

Our economic situation is not just a Wall St. induced problem, it's a $300 billion a year illegal immigration problem as well.

Banker Speeks Out - Reposted

I originally posted this article from an email I had received. The author, Jerry Teasly contacted me and advised that it had been altered.

Here is the artical as it was originally written.

Written by Jerry Teasley of Pine Mountain , GA former Banker

Most of my friends know I have tried to stop thinking, but I can't help
it in the wake of all the recent economic news.

My banking career started in 1970 and ended in 1993, but I still keep
close ties to the industry. During my banking years I did learn one or
two things along the way. The problem with our economy today is from a
liberal thinking congress, senators, and presidents, as well as greed
and dishonesty. When you put these together it spells disaster in any
area of our life.

Ask any banker (just walk in and ask one that has been there for 15 or
20 years) and they will tell you these are the FACTS:

* Under Jimmy Carter we received the Community Reinvestment act. This
law says banks have to make loans in low income areas and it has forced
many lending institutions to seek to make loans to people in areas that
lenders would not normally go because of the risk and low property
values. (Sub Prime Loans). This was in 1977. In 1980 president Carter
and a Democratic controlled congress passed the Depository Institutions Deregulation and
Monetary Control Act-- The law also removed the power of the Federal
Reserve Board of Governors under the Glass-Steagall Act and Regulation
to set the interest rates of savings accounts. A Sad fact is we are all
still feeling the effects of his policies and decisions 30 years later.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-Steagall_Act

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_Q

* Then in 1995, Bill Clinton, made changes to the Community Reinvestment
Act, that forced an increase in the number of loans to these people and the aggregate dollar amounts loaned.-- Larger loans to people with less
income in areas where the collateral value would go down instead of up.
This was in response to pressure from "community organizer." Can you
think of a former Community organizer running for president? (Hint -
he's a Democrat)

* In 1999 Mr. Clinton signed to repeal the Glass-Steagall act which had
protected taxpayers since the Great Depression.

* In 2003 President Bush tried to propose a change in regulatory control
over Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and place both companies under the
control of the Department of the Treasury, but was voted down by the
liberal democrats led by Barney Frank. Remember the name Barney Frank,
he is one of Obama's top two economic advisors the other is Jim Johnson
who was the head of Freddie Mac and walked away with $24,000,000.

* Now, Mr. Obama and his liberal cronies are spinning the facts so you
will believe that all our finan cial problems are because of Bush's
failed economic policy. However, OBAMA'S two MOST TRUSTED ECONOMIC
ADVISERS TO HIS CAMPAIGN are the very people that were in control of Freddie Mac- Jim Johnson $24,000,000 and Fannie Mae - Franklin Raines $90,000,000 in 6 years).

In addition, since 1989 there have been several politicians who have
received campaign donations and kick backs from these two failed
institutions. The #1 recipient is Senator Chris Dodd-D RI and the runner
up is none other than Senator Barrack Obama who received the second
largest amount of donations (over $500,000) which is phenomenal because
he has only been in the Senate for 3 years.

When Enron went belly up, we demanded Senate hearings and
investigations. Why aren't the Democrats demanding the same with these
companies?

But, oh yeah, I forgot. It is Bush's fault! (Yeah, Right, Sure it is). Just ask a Banker.

I am JERRY TEASLEY, retired banker and I approved this message.

My appologies to Mr. Teasley for not verifying the content for accuracy.

A Letter To Senator McCain

“We’re happy being the underdogs.”

This was your comment made during the first part of an interview that aired on Hannity and Colmes (Fox News Network) last night and echoed by running mate for VP, Governor Sara Palin. What??????????

Senator McCain and Governor Palin, this isn’t the Super Bowl. You can’t sit back and hope that your opponent’s photo shows up on the cover of the Super Bowl issue of Sports Illustrated, the superstitious curse.

It is now time to get in the game. The last presidential debate was a yawner. Senator Obama came out and did what Obama does well. He didn’t address anything with specificity, kept cool and collected – almost cold and kept tying McCain to President Bush but was very articulate.

Senator McCain seemed almost distracted. He started making notes the minute he reached his seat, seemed agitated at times and stuttered through a few of his comments.

When they were presented with questions about the financial crisis facing this nation, neither had a quality answer. McCain unveiled his new mortgage plan but had no real details. Are these two candidates so far removed from reality because of their wealth that they really don’t understand what the average American faces? Why has neither one of these candidates echoed the anger of Americans and made it a point to go head hunting for those responsible.

The reasons are very different. Obama won’t go there because too many of those responsible are close personal friends and Dems. McCain won’t go there because the Dems have labeled him unstable, argumentative and angry. McCain doesn’t want those labels and tries to show himself outside of that light.

Senator McCain, get angry! Take the gloves off and show America just how much you care about their financial future. You have two very experienced individuals at your disposal who, I’m sure, would be pleased and honored to accept cabinet appointments even prior to your election as President. Fill the positions of Attorney General and Treasury Secretary now!

Appointing Rudy Giuliani as your Attorney General with his extensive legal experience and as a US Attorney would be the right choice. Mitt Romney has a proven record of fiscal financial responsibility and would be a perfect appointment as your Treasury Secretary.

Senator McCain, start action now towards finding and prosecuting those who are responsible for this financial crisis. Let the American people know that you mean business. Make the promise to Americans that you will get to the bottom of the corruption, put a stop to it and put the perpetrators where they belong, BEHIND BARS! We have already seen that the corruption has not stopped. Shortly after AIG’s 80 billion dollar handout, their executives spend almost half a million for a vacation (bonus based). Then, they come back and request another 37 plus billion. How is this benefitting the American people? Bonuses? AIG is in the tank and they are still handing out bonuses at taxpayer’s expense. Corruption is alive and well on Wall St.

Senator McCain, the gloves come off now. It’s time to get into this game to win. Only in sports does the underdog get the kind of support from the fans that you are looking for. NOW is the time for fighting for what is right. It’s time to stand up and get in the face of the opponent, not to belittle or slander him, but to show the American people his true colors.

Senator McCain, we can’t afford an Obama presidency!

The Choice Is Clear! McCain - Palin

Why is it that many Americans still don’t get it?

With the choice for the White House looming closer and closer, we are all aware of what or who the choices are. The problem, as I see it, is that there is so much conflicting information out there and it is difficult to separate the wheat from the straw, the corn from the cobb. This in itself could cause some Americans to make a choice that will take this nation down the road of larger government, higher taxes – for every one and a government which believes that it knows better than we who to run our own lives.

Senator Obama is just that candidate. He speaks of tax breaks and cuts for 95% of working Americans and higher taxes on those with incomes in excess $250k, individuals and business alike. Let’s look at this responsibly.

By cutting or not increasing the “Middle Class” tax burden that revenue must come from somewhere without reducing government spending. So, let’s hit up big business to cover the gap. Sounds like an easy fix, right? Not so fast! Do you really think that big business is going to take that hit as a loss? I don’t think so and if you do, you must have just crawled out from under a rock. These businesses that will feel this additional tax burden will do just the same thing they have done with increased manufacturing and transportation costs, and that is pass it down the line.

This brings me to my next point.

The size of an Obama government would be grown to it’s largest in history. His plan is to spend an additional 1 trillion to expand government run programs that have become ineffective because of the top end weight. And, where is this money going to come from? Yup, you guessed it, from me and you. Don’t let his rhetoric about tax cuts to 95% of the middle class fool you. We all will pay under Obama in the long run, unless, under his plan, we are all going to become employees of the federal government.

So let’s get this straight: Larger government to tell us where to get healthcare, where to go to school, what fuels we can use and where we can look for them and a host of other mandates for the free USA. What would come next, a repeal of our first amendment rights so that we could not speak out against the Obama Government?

I won’t even go down the road of Obama’s best buddies who are comprised of a terrorist or two, big business COEs who have bilked Americans out of their hard earned money and of course, lots of politicians who love to spend money to further their own interests and agendas. I’m sure that his planetarium buddy in his home town of Chicago will be looking for a six million dollar handout if Obama gets in.

And I said I wouldn’t go there. Oops!

Now let’s look at Senator McCain, a real American Hero. He has spent a lifetime serving this great country and pledges to continue doing so with honor and respect for Americans. McCain has put country first and his record, unlike Obama’s, shows it. He has a passion to lead and the compassion to it responsibly to re-strengthen America. He is dedicated to serving America with fiscal responsibility, oversight and pledging to reduce the size of government to reduce the excessive spending of the past. He has crossed party lines and has challenged his own party counterparts to do the right thing. He’s ruffled some feathers in his time and has no regrets for doing so.

Senator McCain has a solid plan to bring stability back to American in both the Wall St. and Main St. communities. He has been solid in his position since the beginning of his run for the White House with the only changes being that of adding further protection for middle income Americans against the rigors of coping with financial hardship. Senator McCain supports or military and or veterans. He understands the effects of war and is more qualified to lead our military as Commander and Chief.

Senator McCain’s choice for VP, Alaskan Governor Sara Palin, is more proof that McCain is a reformist. Palin has given so much back to the people of Alaska by cutting wasteful spending and unnecessary taxes. Palin also has a proven record of reform.

Together they are truly the only choice we have for the White House.

The other choice WILL be disastrous!

Bailout - Not So Good For "Main Street"

It looks like the bailout is coming.

Our congressional brainiacs seem to have reached an agreement on the 700 billion dollar Wall St. bailout. What is contained in the language is yet to be seen.

The term “Main Street” has been used to death and it is used to describe the average middle class American. As one of those middle class Americans, I don’t want to have my hard earned money used to cover the irresponsible actions of a few. Where is our avenue to this money when we make irresponsible decisions?

The average American handles their finances with responsibility because they know that not doing so would put them out on Main Street. There is an overwhelming number of Americans who don’t want this bailout to happen. Wall St. has buried itself in bad debt by pushing and allowing very poor fiscal responsibility. Corporate executives have been raping the system for years at our expense by collecting unrealistic salaries and severance packages. How does $20 million sound for seventeen days of work? That’s what Alan H. Fishman, the very recent and former CEO of Washington Mutual is guaranteed with his departure from the ailing bank. What warrants any one individual the right to compensation of this magnitude? And, why do we have to cover his salary? I say, give him nothing and let him try to go after a nonexistent WaMu.

I have my concerns about authorizing the Fed and Treasury an open door to our tax dollars. We have already seen the mess that has been created because of the lack of oversight and enforcement by the feds over the financial marketplace. What will stop them from creating an even worse situation.

Politics needs to be removed from our financial structure. Our government officials must be stopped from receiving money from Wall St. or the financial sector of our nation’s economy. Those being bought off to look the other way must now be held responsible. Punishments should be both civil and criminal.

Maybe the threat of being locked up would be a better solution than throwing 700 billion of tax payer’s money at the problem.

Reality, Hype or Who Really Cares - A Financial Crisis

Just how much is the media to blame for the current financial crisis in the US?

In this day and age of the information superhighway, we receive our news faster than ever before. We learn of developing events as they happen and before any true verification of the facts has taken place. It’s like watching the raw feed from one of our news networks as information changes by the second. Some thrive on this real life drama and at times makes for great entertainment. This type of second by second coverage is detrimental in financial news and the way our market system functions.

All of our news networks have their “contributors” who are, or claim to be, experts in their field. They make their comments and issue their warnings or approvals based on their beliefs of what is right. This morning it was announced that WaMu collapsed and was bought out by JP Morgan Chase. It has been reported that it is the largest banking collapse in history, ever.

I wonder how true this actually is.

I will generalize this because I don’t claim to be any type of financial expert and I haven’t looked at the WaMu numbers (and wouldn’t understand it anyway).

We must make a comparison here. Just how does the current “crisis” stack up to that of the one that threw this country into the Great Depression? Again I say that I am no where even close to being a financial expert. I would like to see how dire our current situation is when a real dollar for dollar comparison is made. We need to look at real value from now and then with comparisons that include inflation, unemployment, population, trade, debt to income ratio and all economic factors which affect the economic balance of our country.

We also need to stop the news networks from being the Grim Reapers of financial reporting. We need to look at who (or whom) is actually loosing great amounts of money here. If you lost a million dollars last week in the market, are you now poor? That is very highly unlikely. Are you a foreign investor that has felt your wallet get a little lighter? Sorry, I don’t really care.

If you have worked or currently work for one of these financial firms that are now in trouble and holding out their hands for a bail out, you are either part of the problem you too are a victim of your firm’s corporate greed. Corporate fiscal policy and budgeting should include planning for the future and not just the short term. Fast money means almost always inevitable financial death. If I took care of my household budget the same way corporations handle theirs, my family would be living in a discarded refrigerator box.

If you received a mortgage that you can’t afford, chance is that it is not entirely your fault. If you misrepresented yourself in doing so, that’s a whole different issue. Mortgage companies were more interested in making instant money than making sure that their investors money was secure. This blame does not only fall on the shoulders of the mortgage companies, but on the big money investors as well. The “make me money and make it fast” mentality is what has brought us to this crisis (or is it really a crisis?).

The old adage that Rome wasn’t built in a day, can certainly be applied to wealth. What ever happened to working hard towards prosperity instead of fast? Fast money is unstable. Slow and steady wins the race.

I don’t know about you but, I for one do not want MY hard earned money to be used to bail out these greedy companies and agencies that haven’t planed for the future. If I have too, so should they. If by letting them crash means that I have to tighten my personal financial belt, so be it. It’s been tightened before and I survived andIll survive again. It wouldn’t bother me one bit if Freddy and Fannie or Lemman and WaMu went down in flames.

Whom Should We Believe?

What today makes many think they are political experts? As I sit and watch the hours and hours of election coverage, I see that specific groups have very specific agendas.

One such group is the Hollywood crowd.

"I'm not a politician but, I played a role as one once so I know all about it."

This seems to be commonplace among the Hollywood elitists. The bias is obvious as well as the lack of education. Just because one has the avenue to express their opinion, it doesn’t mean that one needs to use it to initiate viscous character attacks on any one they please.

It concerns me that we as Americans have allowed many of these so called celebrities spew their scathing, slanderous verbiage without any worries of being held accountable for what they have said. Many sit back and think that there is no one listening to them. Not true! Many of these actors of both the big and little screen as well as hosts of talk shows have very large followings. Fans of the so called stars are strung along bloodlessly without a clue of the real world. Some are very outward with their comments and others, subliminal. Some show a bold bias when interviewing two from opposite sides of the debate

A prime example was two recent shows of The View where on separate shows were Senators McCain and Obama. The bias here was blatantly obvious. The show which featured Obama was like one big love fest where Walters even mentioned that Obama was sexy. There was no pressure on Obama to clarify any of his views or his campaign platform and every one on the couch carried on like a bunch of high school girls sitting with the captain of the football team. As for McCain’s visit to the show, there was an obvious turn towards the negative. McCain was attacked constantly from both sides. Walters’ rudeness was so obvious when she watched the stage monitor more than facing McCain as he responded to her attacks. Yes, the girls on the couch did bring up some of the issues that we are faced with today but the way they approached the two candidates was very different.

This is only an example and it is repeated over and over, every day in this country. It is OK to disagree with another’s views and positions. It’s OK to make statements that define your position. If given the opportunity, it’s OK to ask the tough questions of those running for office.

It is not however, acceptable to launch viscous personal attacks just because you don’t agree with some one. It’s not acceptable attack a candidate’s family and children. Also, if you are comparing candidates, make an educated comparison based on fact and not attack ads.

My point here is this. We, as Americans, have the opportunity to participate in something many countries deny their citizens, free elections. We have the opportunity to choose the individual we wish to represent us at the government level. Because we have been granted this power and responsibility under the Constitution of the United States of America, it is also our responsibility to educate ourselves on the candidates. Know where they stand and where the wish to take or lead us. Look at their record and learn about their priorities and commitment.

Don’t just take the word of these screaming meemies out there, educate yourself and in the long run we will all win.
