Whom Should We Believe?

What today makes many think they are political experts? As I sit and watch the hours and hours of election coverage, I see that specific groups have very specific agendas.

One such group is the Hollywood crowd.

"I'm not a politician but, I played a role as one once so I know all about it."

This seems to be commonplace among the Hollywood elitists. The bias is obvious as well as the lack of education. Just because one has the avenue to express their opinion, it doesn’t mean that one needs to use it to initiate viscous character attacks on any one they please.

It concerns me that we as Americans have allowed many of these so called celebrities spew their scathing, slanderous verbiage without any worries of being held accountable for what they have said. Many sit back and think that there is no one listening to them. Not true! Many of these actors of both the big and little screen as well as hosts of talk shows have very large followings. Fans of the so called stars are strung along bloodlessly without a clue of the real world. Some are very outward with their comments and others, subliminal. Some show a bold bias when interviewing two from opposite sides of the debate

A prime example was two recent shows of The View where on separate shows were Senators McCain and Obama. The bias here was blatantly obvious. The show which featured Obama was like one big love fest where Walters even mentioned that Obama was sexy. There was no pressure on Obama to clarify any of his views or his campaign platform and every one on the couch carried on like a bunch of high school girls sitting with the captain of the football team. As for McCain’s visit to the show, there was an obvious turn towards the negative. McCain was attacked constantly from both sides. Walters’ rudeness was so obvious when she watched the stage monitor more than facing McCain as he responded to her attacks. Yes, the girls on the couch did bring up some of the issues that we are faced with today but the way they approached the two candidates was very different.

This is only an example and it is repeated over and over, every day in this country. It is OK to disagree with another’s views and positions. It’s OK to make statements that define your position. If given the opportunity, it’s OK to ask the tough questions of those running for office.

It is not however, acceptable to launch viscous personal attacks just because you don’t agree with some one. It’s not acceptable attack a candidate’s family and children. Also, if you are comparing candidates, make an educated comparison based on fact and not attack ads.

My point here is this. We, as Americans, have the opportunity to participate in something many countries deny their citizens, free elections. We have the opportunity to choose the individual we wish to represent us at the government level. Because we have been granted this power and responsibility under the Constitution of the United States of America, it is also our responsibility to educate ourselves on the candidates. Know where they stand and where the wish to take or lead us. Look at their record and learn about their priorities and commitment.

Don’t just take the word of these screaming meemies out there, educate yourself and in the long run we will all win.
